Performance Orthopedics operates a 1500 square foot state of the art physical therapy unit supervised directly by the physicians. The team of Physical Therapists are experienced and specialized in the treatment of all orthopedic conditions with the use of modalities, exercise and manual therapy.

 Steven L. Bernstein PT,OMT
Director, Physical Therapy
Performance Orthopedics of the Palm Beaches
Steven Bernstein Graduated from Florida International University in 1995 with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy. He later completed four years of residency training in Manual Therapy with the Ola Grimsby Institute. Steve has been a practicing orthopedic therapist for over eleven years in Palm Beach County.
In addition to clinical practice, Mr. Bernstein has served as an adjunct professor at the university level, instructed continuing education classes to his peers for six years, and supervised physical therapy students as a clinical instructor for ten years.
Mr. Bernstein is native to South Florida, and enjoys all of its outdoor activities. He is a competitive amateur triathlete, who enjoys the competition of the sport and the challenge it provides. |

 Rettig W. Talbot, PT, MS, SCS, ATC, CSCS
Rett received his Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Indianapolis in 1984. He received his Board Certification as a Sports Clinical Specialist in 1990. Prior to his professional training, he completed undergraduate studies in Health, Safety and Athletic Training at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
Rett maintains certification as an Athletic Trainer and as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Throughout more than 20 years of clinical practice, he has had the opportunity to treat the gamut of patient-athletes – from those who make a living at their sport, to high school and college student-athletes trying to return from injury, and the athletes of all ages who enjoy sport for health and recreation.
Rett has pursued advanced coursework in the area of golf biomechanics related to performance and injury prevention and treatment; he has also developed expertise in cycling biomechanics related to the proper fit of the bike to the cyclist. Clinically he enjoys working with the rehabilitation of the surgically repaired knee and shoulder as well as conservative management and progression of injuries to the throwing shoulder, and the golfer. A native of Delray Beach, Rett continues to call that home with his wife and high school age son. Outside of the office he likes to play golf, cycle and watch his son play basketball. |

 Rita Zimmermann, LPTA/CLT
Rita received her Associates of Applied Science with
Honors in Physical Therapy from Union County College, New Jersey, in 1985.
She has worked extensively with physically disabled, geriatric,
orthopedic, and pediatric patients in a variety of settings, including
outpatient rehabilitation, scholastic, and the home health setting. In her
work, Rita maintains a compassionate concern for people, and a desire to use her skills to enhance patient well being. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Rita attended the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in March of 2006 and received her certification as a Lymphatic Therapist. Her most challenging and rewarding experience has been raising her three children. During her free time, Rita enjoys outdoor activities which include Scuba diving. |

 Rocco Ferraiolo PTA, NASM-CPT, SPARQ certified
Rocco received his degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant in 2004 from South University. He has worked in Palm Beach County since graduation, treating a wide variety of orthopedic patients in the outpatient setting.
Prior to achieving his physical therapy degree, Rocco was operations manager and personal training director from 2000-2003 at a local fitness facility. He earned numerous personal training certifications for the senior community, weekend warriors, and high level athletes. Rocco has integrated his physical therapy background into a comprehensive program that combines therapy, training, and conditioning to maximize a patient’s outcome.
In his spare time, Rocco enjoys training (himself), participating in competitive recreational sports, and spending time with family and friends. |

 Maura N. Hertzog, M.H.S., PA-C
Maura Hertzog, is a 1985 graduate of Duke University. She attended Duke on a basketball scholarship, and was the starting point guard for all four years. In 1988, she graduated from Duke University’s Physician’s assistant program, and received her Master’s in Health Science from Duke in 1995. She subsequently received her certification as a Personal Fitness Trainer from the American Council on Exercise. She remains an avid sports participant, completing numerous marathons and maintaining her basketball skills.
Ms. Hertzog has over fifteen years of experience in the field of orthopedic surgery, and has a special interest in sports medicine. As a physician assistant, she is a State licensed health care provider who assumes an integral role in patient management, both in the office and operating room, under the supervision of Dr. Chalal. Ms. Hertzog is a very experienced and valued member of the Performance Orthopedics of the Palm Beaches professional patient health care team, dedicated to providing excellence in orthopedics. |
