About Personalized Orthopedics of the Palm Beaches
Personalized Orthopedics of the Palm Beaches (POPB) is a multi-specialty orthopedic practice in Boynton Beach, Florida, that has cared for patients across Palm Beach County since 2007. Our orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, spine and pain specialist, physician assistant and therapists work together in one office, so you can be evaluated, imaged, treated and rehabilitated without being sent across town.
Who we are
POPB was founded by Gregory M. Martin, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who focuses on hip and knee replacement, complex revision surgery and arthritis care. Over the years the practice has grown to cover most of the musculoskeletal system: the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves that let you move.
Our physicians and their areas of focus include:
- Hip and knee replacement: Dr. Gregory Martin and Dr. Matthew Kerr, including complex and revision cases.
- Sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and elbow: Dr. Matthew Wolfson, Dr. Joseph Chalal and Dr. Jeffrey Press.
- Hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder surgery: Dr. Jennifer Tucker, a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon.
- Non-surgical spine and pain care: Dr. Michael Baskin, a physiatrist (a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation) who is board-certified in interventional pain management.
- Non-operative sports medicine and ultrasound-guided injections: Dr. Alexandra Adelman, dual board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine.
William Ulrich, PA-C, works with Dr. Martin in the office and the operating room. Our physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and an occupational and hand therapist complete the team.
One team under one roof
Much of what you might need happens in our Boynton Beach office. We have on-site imaging, including X-ray, MRI, diagnostic ultrasound and fluoroscopy (live X-ray used to guide injections). Our in-office procedure room is used for spine injections, radiofrequency ablation, iovera° cryoneurolysis and kyphoplasty for spinal compression fractures.
Physical therapy and hand therapy are in the same office. Your therapist shares your chart with your physician, so your exercise plan before and after surgery follows what your doctor has seen and planned. We also offer a fall prevention program, a Medicare-covered care management program for osteoarthritis, and a research institute on site.
When surgery is the right step, our surgeons operate at hospitals and surgery centers across Palm Beach County, and your follow-up care and therapy come back to the same office.
Our approach
We start with the least invasive option that fits your problem. For many patients that means activity changes, medication, physical therapy, bracing or an injection before surgery is discussed. When surgery does make sense, we explain why, what the options are, and what recovery usually looks like.
Personalized is in our name for a reason. Two people with the same diagnosis can have very different goals, jobs, health histories and schedules. Your plan should reflect that, and your questions deserve clear answers in plain language.
Training of our physicians
Our physicians trained at institutions including Harvard Medical School, Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, Cleveland Clinic Florida and the University of Miami. Several are fellowship-trained, which means they completed extra years of focused training in a subspecialty such as joint reconstruction, sports medicine or hand surgery after residency. Each physician's profile lists their training and board certifications.
Community and service area
Our single office is in Boynton Beach, and patients visit us from Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth, Wellington, Lantana, West Boynton and communities across Palm Beach County. Many of our patients are active adults and retirees who want to keep walking, playing and working, and many are people recovering from sports and work injuries. We accept Medicare, most commercial PPO plans and workers' compensation, and our staff can check your benefits when you call.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Personalized Orthopedics of the Palm Beaches been in practice?
POPB has cared for patients in Palm Beach County since 2007. The practice was founded by Dr. Gregory Martin and has grown into a multi-specialty orthopedic group with surgeons, non-surgical physicians and therapists in one office.
Do I need surgery if I come to an orthopedic practice?
No. Most visits do not lead to surgery. Our physicians usually begin with non-surgical care such as physical therapy, medication, bracing or injections, and discuss surgery only when it is likely to help more than those options.
What services are available in your office?
We have X-ray, MRI, diagnostic ultrasound and fluoroscopy on site, an in-office procedure room, and physical and hand therapy in the same office. Having these together means fewer trips and a care team that shares one chart.
Do you have more than one location?
No. We have one office, in Boynton Beach. Patients come to us from across Palm Beach County, including Delray Beach, Lake Worth, Wellington, Lantana and West Boynton.
